New Fargo Mall Indoor Playground Brings Recess Back

By Ryan Schuster

The sound of children playing has returned to the play area at West Acres Shopping Center in Fargo. After being closed for renovations, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota sponsored play area reopened on Friday as Recess West, a new brighter and more colorful redesigned space with more play options for younger kids.

The new play area, which features a tree slide, bridge, boat and multiple creatures for little kids to hop on and a mural wall painted by a local artist, is free and open to kids 42 inches and shorter year round whenever the mall is open, letting kids get some healthy activity and recess time in during shopping trips. The new play area was designed to help provide more play options for younger children, something parents have told mall officials they wanted to see in the new indoor playground.

Parents with kids who do not meet the new play area’s 42-inch height limit can pick up a scavenger hunt activity sheet of challenges to complete inside the mall from Guest Services near the main mall entrance just across the food court from the play area.

Recess West is part of our effort to promote, advocate and support healthy living for all North Dakotans. Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota is The Official Sponsor of Recess. We support opportunities for daily activity breaks — or recess — for North Dakotans of all ages.
