North Dakotans experienced many changes related to health care reform in 2013 – and more change is in the forecast for 2014.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) spent much of 2013 preparing for changed related to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and explaining the changes to our members and others in the state. We increased outreach across the state and held an eight-city tour of the state to meet with affected North Dakotans about their options.
The biggest health care reform change that took place in 2013 was open enrollment kicking off on health insurance marketplaces in October 2013, providing another way for Americans to purchase insurance.
The North Dakota Health Insurance Marketplace began accepting online health insurance applications through the federal website on October 1, 2013. Open enrollment for 2014 coverage on the marketplace runs through March 31, 2014.
Americans may be eligible to receive a federal tax credit to help pay for their health insurance. North Dakotans who are eligible for a federal tax credit are able to enroll in the same BCBSND health insurance plans as those who are not eligible. You can use our handy tax credit calculator to see if you are eligible. All BCBSND health insurance plans are on our website at www.BCBSND.com/shop. Those eligible for a federal tax credit will be directred to the marketplace to enroll in a plan.
