Unlike most North Dakotans, I don’t complain about the cold. In fact, I usually tell people to take a chill pill about the wind chill.
Get down with layering up.
Shivering is just the cold keeping you awake.
OK, so that last one is a stretch. But if you read a recent BCBSND blog I wrote about koselig, you know that there are many wonderful aspects about winter that don’t involve hibernation.
What’s koselig? Koselig is a Norwegian state of mind that’s all about making the best of winter – coming together as a community and getting outside even if it’s the last thing you want to do.
And that’s why I’m going to the Frostival celebration Friday through Sunday. I choose to celebrate the cold with my community.
I choose to live the koselig way of life. I choose to put the WIN in Winter!
BCBSND co-hosting the Almost 3K
There are so many events and activities for people of all ages, I can’t list them all here (but you can find them BCBSND writer Lonna Whiting takes a selfie break during an 8-mile run in subzero temperatures as part of her 2014 Fargo half-marathon training.Since BCBSND is co-sponsoring the Almost 3K run/walk Saturday at the Red River Zoo, I’m definitely lacing up to enjoy a brisk jog amongst the camels, wolves and red pandas.
Can’t find a sitter? That’s no excuse either. There’s also a Youth Almost 1.5K, along with half-price zoo spectator admission, a free selfie station and carousel rides from 8 to 10 a.m.
If you’re still not convinced that Frostival is fantastic, the forecast calls for temperatures to reach nearly 40 degrees on Saturday.
Come on, let’s chill together!
